CABBAGE

About Cabbage

Cabbage, comprising several cultivars of Brassica oleracea, is a leafy green, red, or white biennial plant grown as an annual vegetable crop for its dense-leaved heads.

In order to get an early start, our Cabbage begins in our greenhouse. We typically begin seeding in March as the days are getting longer and the nights are getting warmer. Once the plants are about 5 weeks old, we will transplant them into the field. From there they are hand weeded, irrigated as needed, and cared for. Once the heads reach the optimal size, we will carefully hand harvest and either package them in the field or put them into wooden crates for longer term storage. Storing them in wooden crates allows us to provide our customers with Cabbage throughout the winter and into spring. We grow green, red, and savoy.
